ORLANDO, Fla. — The Yale men's track and field team kicked off the outdoor season with a bang Friday at the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by UCF. After a week of warm weather training the Bulldogs made the most of the great competition to lay down some solid marks -- including new school top 10 marks -- ahead of what promises to be a memorable season.

• Junior Nolan Recker kicked the day off with a PR in the hammer throw; his mark of 59.46 meters came in his first attempt. This mark moved him up to second all-time at Yale. Classmate Jake Sun threw well to record a distance of 55.17 meters.
• Junior Isiah Udofia took the win in the long jump with his final round attempt of 7.42 meters.
• Senior Simon Jupp was just outside a PR in the 200 meters. His time of 22.65 seconds is a solid opening time and bodes well for the season ahead.
• There were plenty of Bulldogs in the 1500 meters. It was junior Owen Karas who kicked it off with a win in the opening heat with a time of 3:41 and a dominant last lap. Seniors Leo Brewer and Winslow Atkeson were closely matched, coming home in 3:46 and 3:47 respectively -- both very solid season-opening times. Going in the second heat, sophomore Brian Gamble closed quickly to place third in 3:49 and classmate Caden Montini ran 3:52, just outside a PR. In the third heat sophomore Amaré Fields and first year Matthew Schutzbank worked well together to push each other to run 3:52, placing second and third respectively.
