Tica, Farina-Henry Score 10 Minutes Apart To Spark
Comeback Win
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Milan Tica's goal midway through
the second half of Tuesday night's game with Boston College tied
the score at 1-1 and snapped a 256-minute scoreless drought for the
Yale men's soccer team. The Bulldogs didn't have to wait nearly as
long for another goal. Aden Farina-Henry scored 10 minutes later as
Yale knocked off the Eagles 2-1 at Newton Campus Field.
"We had two very well-taken goals," said Yale head coach Brian
Tompkins, who saw his team snap a three-game losing streak.
The Bulldogs (3-4-2) were coming off a heartbreaking overtime
loss to Harvard on Saturday, and Tompkins was worried his team
might suffer a letdown.
"That certainly wasn't the case," he said. "I thought we played
with a lot of conviction, especially after falling behind."
Mor Avi Hanan's goal at 21:40 gave the Eagles (5-6) a 1-0 lead,
and it looked like that goal might hold up.
Tica, though, used his 6-4 frame to get Yale on the board when
he headed in a Jon Carlos corner kick at 70:04. It was Tica's first
career goal.
Farina-Henry then snapped the tie. He one-timed an Andy Shorten
cross past BC goalkeeper Justin Luthy at 80:57. Charlie Neil also
assisted on the goal.
"BC is a very good team and this is not an easy place to play,"
Tompkins said. "It's a great accomplishment for our guys."
Travis Chulick continued his strong play in goal, finishing with
five saves. BC outshot the Bulldogs 19-14 and had a 6-5 edge in
corner kicks.
Yale returns to Ivy League play on Saturday, hosting Dartmouth.
Kickoff at Reese Stadium is slated for 4:30 p.m.
