Reetz Adds Third Straight Double-Double in Win Over Crimson

Haley Wessels slammed a season-high 17 kills, hit .577 for the match and added five block assists as the Bulldogs cruised to a 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 25-12) victory over Harvard on Friday night in Cambridge, Mass.  Erica Reetz added her third straight double-double for Yale, which improved to 11-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

Reetz, the reigning Ivy Rookie of the Week, had 14 kills and 15 digs and notched two set-winning kills for the Bulldogs, who earned their second conference road win of the season.

Tied at one set, the Bulldogs scored the final three points of the third.  Reetz broke a 22-all tie with a kill, then Katie Cordell followed with a service ace.  With the game in the balance, Reetz's kill gave the Bulldogs the victory.

In the fourth set, the Bulldogs tallied eight of the first nine points and never looked back.  Consecutive Wessels kills and a Harvard error gave Yale a 17-6 lead and forced the Crimson to call a timeout. 

Up 13-11 in the second set, Harvard used an 8-3 run en route to a win.  Sandra Fryhofer, who led the Crimson with 12 kills, capped the run with a kill from Beth Kinsella. 

The Bulldogs won the first set with a .387 team hitting percentage and finished the match with a .271 percentage.  With the opening set tied at 20, the Bulldogs capitalized on two Harvard errors to take a two-point lead. 

Fryhofer responded with a kill, which was promptly answered by a Wessels kill.  After another crucial Harvard error, Reetz ended the set with a kill.     

Kendall Polan had seven kills, hit .583 and set up a team-best 37 assists, while Bridget Hearst posted 15 kills for the Bulldogs, who also received 19 digs from Kelly Ozurovich. 

Yale returns to action tomorrow at Dartmouth.  Match time is set for 5 p.m.
