NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Coming off a tough loss against Boston College on Saturday, the Yale men fell to Purdue on Sunday 4-3 at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center at Yale.
Sophomore Marc Powers, who has recovered from his injury on Saturday, defeated Szymon Tatarczyk at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-4). Sophomore John Huang also won at No. 2 singles, defeating No. 124 Krisztian Krocsko in three sets (7-6, 3-6, 7-6). Yale earned its third win of the match through the doubles point, winning two out of three matches. At No. 1, Powers and classmate Daniel Hoffman defeated Mark Kovacs and Krisztian Krocsko (8-6). The Bulldogs at No. 2 doubles, junior Joel Samaha and Huang, also won their match against Purdue's Aaron Dujovne and Pawel Poziomski (8-5).
At No. 3 singles, Hoffman played an even match against Mark Kovacs, coming back to win the second set after bringing the first set to 7-5. Hoffman lost in three sets (7-5,4-6,6-3). At No. 5 singles, Samaha also lost a tough three-set match after winning the first set 6-0.
The Bulldogs look next to William and Mary (Thursday at 1p.m.) and Army (Sunday at 2p.m.) Yale will host both events at the Cullman-Heyman tennis center.
