Yale Fails to Solve Cornell

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Facing their second nationally ranked opponent in two days, the Yale Bulldogs knew a tough task was in hand. Despite a close final score, the Bulldogs fell to the 8th ranked Cornell Big Red 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Yale (2-6-2, 1-5-2 ECAC) withstood an onslaught of shots in the first period, as Tera Hofmann (30 saves on 33 shots) made 13 stops. Cornell answered with strong play in net of its own in the opening frame as Marlene Boissonnault stopped six shots on her way to a 15 save shutout.

Cornell (5-3-0, 5-1-0) found a way past Hofmann in the second period. Hofmann managed 10 saves but the Big Red scored twice, once on the power play, to take a 2-0 lead.

Ahead by two, Cornell continued to pepper Hofmann with shots in the third period. The Big Red pounced on an unlucky puck, collecting a final goal to take a 3-0 win.

The Bulldogs play next Friday against Quinnipiac in the Nutmeg Classic at Freitas Ice Forum.
