Box Score Reynolds Scores 15 To Pace Bulldogs
NEW ROCHELLE, New York – Iona has made the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two years. The Gaels appear poised to make another run at the post season this season. Yale will certainly vouch for them. Iona shot 55.6 percent from the field and tallied 18 assists in an impressive 83-67 victory over the Bulldogs at a charged up Hynes Center.
Blake Reynolds scored 15 points to pace Yale. Eric Monroe added a career-high 12 points, and Miye Oni also had a dozen.
The Gaels, who were playing only their second home game of the season, have won four straight.
Iona was remarkably consistent on offense throughout the game. The Gaels shot 55.2 percent in the first half and then connected on 56 percent over the final 20 minutes.
The Bulldogs (6-7) started strong and had a 17-10 lead after an Alex Copeland layup 7:30 in.
Iona, though, ran off seven straight points to tie and then quickly built the lead to 12 when C.J. Seaforth hit a three-pointer with 5:41 left in the half.
The Gaels' advantage was nine at halftime, but the Bulldogs made an early push to start the second half. Reynolds' layup cut the deficit to five a little over a minute in, but Iona scored the next six points to regain control.
E.J. Crawford (24 points) and Deyshonee Much (19 points) did most of the damage for the Gaels (5-4).
Yale was playing its 13th game since opening the season a little over a month ago. The Bulldogs now have a nine-day break for final exams before hosting Monmouth on Fri., Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
This was the first meeting between the two teams, who have both become top mid major programs.
Azar Swain was the fourth Bulldog in double figures. He finished with 11 points.
Copeland had five of Yale's 16 assists.
