A long bus ride to Pittsburgh did not cool off the Yale women's soccer team. Even yielding the first goal didn't deter the Bulldogs.
Chloe Laureano's goal midway through the second half snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted Yale to a hard-earned 2-1 win over Robert Morris on a warm afternoon at the North Athletic Complex.
Â
"Today our group showed great resiliency coming back after giving up an early goal," said
Brendan Faherty, The Loring Family Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "I believe a game like this will help us as we continue on our journey this season."
Â
The Bulldogs (4-2) have won two straight games and four of their last five.
Â
Robert Morris struck first at 10:19, but Yale answered before end of the first half when
Aerial Chavarin tallied her fifth goal of the season.
Â
Laureano, a first year, then made her first career goal a big one. It came at 70:06, assisted by
Mia Grillo.
Â
Yale's defense did the rest, allowing the Colonials only two shots in the second half.
Â
The Bulldogs outshot Robert Morris 22-6 and had a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.
Â
Alyssa Fagel earned the victory in goal.
Â
"Robert Morris is a well-coached team that plays really well on the counter and provided a different test for us," Faherty said. "As the game went on, we were able to find our passing rhythm and create some quality chances."
Â
Yale is back in action on Thursday at Northeastern.
Â
"We are excited to get back on the training field and prepare for another big test," Faherty said.
