NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's soccer team was muy buena in its Noche Latina celebration.
Paolo Carroll scored a pair of pretty goals as the Bulldogs blanked Dartmouth 2-0 in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd at Reese Stadium.
It was the second straight Ivy League shutout for Yale, which played a scoreless tie with Harvard last Saturday in its Ivy opener.
The Bulldogs (4-4-2, 1-0-1 Ivy) are now unbeaten in their last three games.
After a scoreless first half that featured only seven shots, Yale took control in the second half.
Carroll's first goal at 77:54 came by way of some pretty footwork in the box. After a corner kick was cleared out,
Gelber Lemus lofted the ball right back in.
Jeremy Haddock controlled it and quickly found Carroll, who fired a shot inside the right post.
Carroll, who now has six goals on the season, struck again less than nine minutes later. This one was set up by a nifty back-heel pass from
Daniel Massaad.
Eric Lagos started the play by racing down the right sideline and sending a ball into the box.
The two goals were quite enough for a stingy Yale defense that limited the Big Green to five shots.
Goalkeeper
Elian Haddock made two saves to post the shutout.
The Bulldogs finished with a 9-5 edge in shots.
"The first half wasn't great for anyone as both teams seemed to be trying to feel each other out. Dartmouth did a good job of making it difficult to get our attacking players involved the way we want," said
Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "I was really happy with how we found a good balance of competing hard in the second half, but we were also able to have a little more composure and settle into the game and play. We played some good soccer at times and were able to get our attacking players into better positions to be more dangerous. It was a good collective effort and also happy to get the team shutout. The games keep coming fast so we need to focus on recovering quickly."
Yale takes a break from Ivy League play on Tuesday, traveling to nationally ranked New Hampshire.
