Dogs of the Desert! No. 5 Yale Takes Down No. 3 Minnesota, 4-3

HENDERSON, Nev. - The No. 5 nationally ranked Yale women's hockey team took down No. 3 nationally ranked Minnesota, 4-3, at the Dollar Loan Center to close out the Henderson Collegiate Hockey Showcase. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 8-0-0 overall, while the Gophers moved 10-3-2 overall.

How It Happened
  • The first period was a scoring frenzy between both sides as the teams combined for six total goals.
  • Yale got on the board first as Emma Seitz flipped a backhanded shot towards goal that Rebecca Vanstone swatted at and knocked in the floating puck.
  • Yale held onto a one-goal lead until the 11:17 mark of the first period when Minnesota tied the game. Just 35 seconds later, the Gophers took a one-goal lead.
  • The Bulldogs' second goal came as Carina DiAntonio picked the pocket of a Minnesota defender and slotted over a pass to a breaking Charlotte Welch. Welch found Seitz entering the circle on the left side as the defender ripped a shot top shelf to tie the game.
  • With 36.8 seconds remaining in the first period, a shot from the point saw Elle Hartje tip the puck towards goal, which ultimately landed at the stick of Jordan Ray, who managed to jam it home for the go-ahead goal.
  • Yale responded again 11.9 seconds later as DiAntonio connected with Claire Dalton for the Bulldogs' fourth goal.
  • In the second period, Minnesota notched its third goal at the 4:09 mark of the period.
  • Minnesota outshot Yale, 8-5, in the third period, but Pia Dukaric backstopped the Bulldogs to a massive victory over the higher-seeded Gophers.

  • Claire Dalton recorded her first game-winning goal of the season and the sixth of her career.
