NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's soccer program will look to snap a two-game losing skid this weekend when it travels to play UConn (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Buffalo (Sunday at 1 p.m.) in its final non-conference matches before Ivy League play begins.
The Bulldogs (3-2-1) are coming off a pair of losses to Kansas State and Kansas on their recent road trip to the Midwest, which ended their three-match winning streak. Yale looks to get back on track with a pair of regional contests before Princeton visits Reese Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 24 (7 p.m.).
Sophomore goalkeeper
Maya Bellomo tallied 13 saves this past weekend – including eight against Kansas on Sunday. She is tied for an Ivy League-best 32 saves through six matches this season, matching Charlotte Cyr of Dartmouth. Her three shutouts this season are also tied for a league-high.
Sophomore
Laila Booker scored the only goal of the weekend for the Elis, netting her first-career tally in the 89
th minute against the Jayhawks in a 4-1 loss. Sophomore
Ellie Rappole continues to lead the Bulldogs on the offensive end this season in goals (2) and points (5).
Prior to Sunday, Yale's defense had allowed only two goals in its first five matches – including a pair of shutout victories over Boston University and Fordham at home. The Bulldogs are allowing an average of 1.00 goals per game this season.
SCOUTING UCONN
UConn (3-2-1) has won two of its past three matches. Most recently, the Huskies blanked Central Connecticut, 4-0. The scoring duo of sophomore Abbey Jones (3G-3A=9P) and junior Jada Konte (3G-2A=8P) has led UConn to outscoring its opponents this season by a 16-5 margin. Yale won the last meeting with UConn on Aug. 25, 2017 by a 1-0 score at Morrone Stadium.
SCOUTING BUFFALO
Buffalo (5-1) has posted three-consecutive shutouts as part of its three-game winning streak, which most recently saw the Bulls beat Colgate, 2-0. Buffalo is 4-0 at home this season and is led by sophomore Jasmine Guerber, who has accounted for a team-high 11 points (five goals, one assist) this season. Buffalo edged Yale, 3-2, in the 2021 season-opener at Reese Stadium.
