BUFFALO, N.Y. – A pair of goals in the first half – including one off a penalty kick – was too much for the Yale women's soccer program to come back from on Sunday afternoon, as it dropped a 2-0 match to Buffalo at UB Stadium.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Maya Bellomo made six saves in the match, her fifth this season with at least five saves, to keep the Bulldogs (3-4-1) in the game. Yale's defense added six blocked shots, as it battled through a 23-5 shot advantage by the Bulls (6-1).
Yale falls to 0-4 this season on the road, while it is 3-0-1 at Reese Stadium.
Buffalo began the scoring in the 20
th minute when Katie Krohn converted a penalty kick, following a foul in the penalty area by sophomore defender
Nana Yang. Andrea Judasz added another score for the Bulls in the 43th minute off a header, with assists from Abbey Callaghan and Taylor Caridi.
One of Yale's best scoring chances was in the 31
st minute when sophomore forward
Alanna Butcher had a shot blocked in transition just wide right of the net. Throughout the contest, Buffalo had an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.
In the 60
th minute, the Bulldogs had a goal wiped off the board due to an offside call. The Elis were called for offside five times on Sunday, with none more consequential than the play that would have cut the deficit in half.
Five different players recorded shots for the Bulldogs, including one on goal by senior forward
