NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's soccer program looks for its first road win of the season when it travels to play rival Harvard on Saturday evening at Jordan Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the contest will be live streamed on ESPN+.
The Bulldogs (4-4-1, 1-0 Ivy) are coming off a 1-0 shutout victory over Princeton in their Ivy League opener at Reese Stadium last Saturday. Sophomore
Ellie Rappole provided the offense with a goal in the sixth minute, while sophomore goalkeeper
Maya Bellomo made six saves in the win – Yale's first over Princeton at home since 2006.
Bellomo has posted four shutouts this season – the most among Ivy League goalkeepers - and has made 48 saves in nine contests (5.3 saves per game), tying with Dartmouth's Charlotte Cyr for the league lead. She has led a Yale defense that is allowing only 1.11 goals per game and has not surrendered a goal in the last 137 minutes of play (Buffalo and Princeton).
Rappole is Yale's leading scorer with seven points this season (three goals, one assist), while first year
Belle Golden has chipped in with four points (one goal, two assists) to lead the offense.
Yale is 0-4 on the road this season, but looks to snap the skid when it visits its old rival in Cambridge. The Bulldogs last defeated Harvard in 2017, but have not won against the Crimson on the road since 2006.
SCOUTING HARVARD
Harvard (6-0-2, 0-0-1 Ivy) has not lost in eight matches this season, which includes a 2-0 victory over No. 17 N.C. State on Sept. 4. Coming off a 1-1 draw with Penn last week, Harvard hosts Yale this weekend and is led by top scorer Hannah Bebar, who has tallied 13 points (four goals, five assists) in eight contests. In the 2021 season, the Crimson went 12-3-1 (5-2 Ivy) and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Chris Hamblin is in his seventh season at the helm for Harvard.
