NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale men's soccer team will play Bryant in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as announced during the selection show on Monday afternoon. The Elis will travel to Smithfield, R.I. for a game against the America East Tournament champions. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 16.
Ivy League Tournament Champions
Yale secured a berth in the NCAA tournament by winning the inaugural Ivy League Tournament last weekend. The Bulldogs defeated Harvard 4-0 in the semifinals, and triumphed over Brown 2-1 in the title game. The Elis finished the regular season with a 8-5-3 record and tied for second overall in the conference standings.
Senior
Eric Lagos, fresh off winning the Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player, leads the team with eight goals, including three in the last two games.
Max Rogers and
Quanah Brayboy have been fantastic offensive catalysts, with a combined 15 assists between the two of them. Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year
TJ Presthus is often times the most impactful player on the field, and leads a back line that has only allowed two goals over the past five contests. Goalkeeper
Chris Edwards has started every game between the posts, recording seven clean sheets along the way.
Yale will make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019, when the team earned a spot by winning the Ivy League regular season. The Bulldogs lost in the NCAA First Round to Boston College that season. The Bulldogs will make their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance overall (1973, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1999, 2005, 2019, 2023). Yale has gone 5-7 in 12 NCAA Tournament games, earning its last victory against Rutgers in 1999.
America East Champions
Bryant locked up the America East Tournament with a win in the title game over No. 10 New Hampshire in double overtime. The team finished 16-1-2 this season, with its only loss coming against Vermont on Sept. 23.
Bryant has also continually topped the NCAA statistical rankings all season. Currently they are first in the nation in goal differential, shutout percentage, save percentage, and team goals-against average.
The Black and Gold are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
