NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's tennis team, which sits at No. 72 in the latest ITA computer rankings, has one more tune up before the start of Ivy League play. The Bulldogs host St. John's on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
Yale (9-5) has been off since completing its spring break trip to California on Mar. 20. The Bulldogs won their final two matches on the West Coast, knocking off Cal Poly 6-1 and Santa Clara 5-2. The other two matches on the trip were narrow 4-3 losses to both UCLA and UC Santa Barbara.
Michael Sun and
Walker Oberg went 3-1 in singles on the trip, while Sun and
Eric Li and
Theo Dean and
Aidan Reilly were 3-1 in doubles.
The Red Storm (14-4) will present a strong challenge for the Bulldogs. St. John's in on a five-match winning streak, including a 7-0 blanking of Villanova on Wednesday. Yale is the third Ivy League opponent of the spring for the Red Storm, who lost to Cornell 5-2 on Jan. 29 and beat Brown 5-2 last Sunday.
Friday is a start of a busy weekend for St. John's, who host St. Francis Brooklyn and Queens College on Sunday.
Yale plays its Ivy opener next Friday vs. Harvard at Cullman-Heyman.
