CONWAY, S.C. – The Yale softball team fell short in its comeback attempt against Oakland University, 5-4, to kick off the Chanticleer Showdown, hosted by Coastal Carolina University. The Bulldogs' season record moves to 1-5, while the Grizzlies moved to 5-3.
Scoring Summary
- B1 | Oakland hopped on the board in the first inning with three runs.
- B3 | The Grizzlies picked up two more runs in the third inning to extend their lead to five runs.
- T4 | The Bulldogs found their way onto the scoresheet. Isabella Fortini picked up a big double to left field in the lead-off spot. After Carolyn Skotz advanced Fortini to third before Libby Peoples knocked her in with a single to right.
- T7 | Sam Goodcase came in to pinch hit, reaching base on a single to centerfield and found herself on second by way of a steal. With two outs, Gretchen Bunovsky gave Yale two baserunners after being hit by a pitch. Katie Donahey stepped to the plate and knocked a three-run home run, putting Yale within one of Oakland.

- Hannah Turner tossed 2.1 innings in the circle for Yale, while Emma Taylor closed the remaining 3.2 innings with six strikeouts.
- Isabella Fortini picked up her first collegiate extra base hit.
- Katie Donahey recorded her first home run of the season and the fifth of her career.
