Bulldogs Cruise Past Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – Five Bulldogs scored in double figures as the Yale men's basketball team used a dominant first half to defeat Quinnipiac, 97–60, on Tuesday evening at M&T Bank Arena.
 
The Bulldogs improved to 2-0, and the Bobcats fell to 1-2.
 
Turning Point
After a tightly contested opening stretch, Yale held a narrow 24–23 lead with 10:33 left in the first half. From that point on, the Bulldogs' offense took off. Back-to-back three-pointers from Devon Arlington and Casey Simmons ignited a surge that stretched the lead to 38–26 at the 6:02 mark. Yale never looked back, heading into halftime with a commanding 52–28 advantage. The Bulldogs closed the half on a dominant 29–6 run, shooting an impressive 70% from the field (21-of-30) and 66.7% from three-point range (6-of-9). They stayed in control after the break, hitting 50% of their shots (17-of-34) in the second half to put the game out of reach for good.
 
Notable Performances
  • Riley Fox had another stellar performance, tallying 13 points, going a perfect 5-of-5 from the field and 3-of-3 from three-point range, and adding three assists. Eleven of his points came in the first half.
  • Samson Aletan scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, with five rebounds, two assists, and a block.
  • Isaac Celiscar recorded 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, along with eight rebounds and three assists.
  • Nick Townsend had 12 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.
  • Jordan Brathwaite notched 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting and was a perfect 2-of-2 from three-point range.
  • Simmons contributed eight points and three rebounds.
  • Every Bulldog who played in the first half recorded a basket.
  • A total of 12 players scored in the contest.
  • The Bulldogs shot 59.4% overall (38-of-64) and 55.6% from three (10-of-18).
  • Yale dominated in the paint, scoring 54 points to Quinnipiac's 34.
  • The Bulldogs' bench contributed 45 points.

  • Fox, Townsend, and Celiscar have recorded double-digit points in both games to start the season.
  • Brathwaite's 11 points marked a career high.
  • Fox's three assists are a career high.
  • First-year players Courtney Wallace (five points, two rebounds), Jack Sullivan (five points, 2-for-2 FG, two rebounds, two blocks), and Daniel Ogunyemi (four points) had strong performances.
  • The Bulldogs have won their last three matchups against the Bobcats.
