NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Jim Henry, Robert J.H. Kiphuth Coach of Men's & Women's Swimming and Diving has announced that junior
Jessey Li will serve as captain for the Bulldogs next season.
"We are excited to have Jessey lead our team next year," Henry said. "Her ability to motivate others will help everyone to give their very best."
Li, a standout performer during her time at Yale, holds the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke and recently wrapped up another stellar season. She earned Second Team All-Ivy honors for the second straight year after capturing the silver medal in the 100 breaststroke at the Ivy League Championships. Li also played a key role in a record-breaking performance in the 200-yard medley relay, teaming up with
Quinn Murphy,
Alex Massey, and
Sara Plunkett to set a new program best of 1:37.19 at the Championships. A two-time U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier in the 100 breaststroke (2021, 2024), Li has consistently demonstrated excellence in the pool. She also most recently received the Davies Award, Ali Truwit Perseverance Award, and Team High Point Award.
"Being voted captain is truly an honor, and it means so much to me," Li said. "To be chosen by such an incredible group of teammates is something I will always cherish. The Yale Swimming & Diving team has been my second family, and the support, dedication, and hard work that everyone brings every day is truly inspiring. I am excited to step into this role, not just as a leader, but as someone who is committed to helping each of us grow, both in and out of the pool. We are all here to push one another, lift each other up, and create an environment where everyone can succeed. The potential of this team is limitless, and I truly believe that, together, we can achieve great things. I cannot wait to see what we will accomplish together, and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to lead such a special group of women."
