Carney, Taylor Named Captains of 2025-26 Squash Teams

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Lynn Leong, the Brooks G. Ragen Director of Squash has announced that seniors Tad Carney and Whitney Taylor have been named the 2025-26 captains for the Yale men's and women's squash programs, respectively.

Carney played at the No. 1 position for the Bulldogs this season, helping the team reach the CSA Finals for the first time since 2016. Carney finished a brilliant junior campaign with an overall record of 8-5. He was named First Team All-Ivy this season and was a CSA All-American as a sophomore. Carney reached the semifinals of the CSA Indvidual Championships before falling to eventual champion, Salman Khalil. He was also named as a CSA Scholar Athlete.

"Tad has set the tone for what it means to lead from the front—anchoring the team at No. 1 and reaching the semifinals of the CSA National Individuals," Leong said. "He takes no nonsense on the court and brings a laser focus and tenacity that fuels the entire squad. His leadership and competitive fire will drive us forward in the 2025-2026 season."

Taylor recorded a 9-5 record playing primarily at the No. 7 position. She picked up key wins over Columbia, Cornell and Penn, and has been a leader on the Bulldogs' squad. An excellent student, Taylor was named as a CSA Scholar Athlete.

"Whitney leads with quiet strength and unwavering commitment," Leong said. "She puts in the work, competes with heart, and always puts the team first. Her consistency, drive, and thoughtful leadership set the standard. As captain, she'll bring the grit and steadiness we need in the 2025-2026 season."

Both the men's and women's teams are expected to bring back more than a dozen players with collegiate experience next season.
