NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Goalkeeper
Kyla Holmes delivered a career-high 11 saves, but a late goal in the 88th minute gave No. 25 Vanderbilt a 2–1 victory over the Yale women's soccer team on Friday night. The Commodores improved to 4–1, while the Bulldogs dropped to 2–1.
"We learned a lot about ourselves tonight," said
Sarah Martinez, Loring Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer. "This group is gritty and bought in. They play for each other, and they are constantly onto the next action. That is a very, very good Vanderbilt team who will play late into November — and we never quit. To score late and continue to create was great to see. I'm bummed to give up the late goal, as it would have been great to get a result, but I'm proud of the fight we showed."
"Kyla was unbelievable today — as she always is. She sets the standard so high and keeps us in these types of games."
"A tough weekend ahead as we begin to focus on UConn at home," added Martinez.
