HANOVER, N.H. -- The Yale Sailing women's team took home a win over the weekend, winning the Mrs. Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth. The Bulldogs dominated, winning by 25 points en route to victory.
Lake Mascoma had light to medium conditions both days over the weekend. On Saturday, the wind was shifty out of the Northwest, and on Sunday, it was more consistent out of the Southeast. Skipper Dorothy Mendelblatt sailed with crew Julia Miller in 'A' division, and skipper Audrey Foley sailed with crew Carmen Berg in 'B' division.
At Brown, the Yale coed team competed in the Sherman Hoyt Trophy. The wind was puffy-shifty on Saturday, and lightened up as the day went on. On Sunday, the wind came out of the East-southeast and ranged from 5-10 knots. Skipper Carly Kieding sailed with crew Sarah Moeder in 'A' division, and skipper Elle Sykes sailed with crew Ella Benedetto in 'B' division. After seven races in each division, the team placed eighth overall.
Another squad traveled to the Coast Guard Academy for the NEISA Match Race Championships, where they sailed J-70s. Skipper Morgan Pinckney sailed with crews Alexander Adams, Mathias Reimer, and Annabel Woodworth. Saturday brought a light breeze from the North in the morning before shifting 180 degrees by the afternoon. On Sunday, the wind came out of the East and shifted south as the day went on, ranging from 8 to 10 knots. The team won three out of their seven races in the round-robin, which put them in fourth before the elimination rounds. Brown defeated the Bulldogs in the quarterfinals.
Next weekend, the Bulldogs will compete at the Women's ACC Round 1, the Danmark Trophy, and the Moody Trophy.
