IRVING, Texas – The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) has announced 178 semifinalists for the 2025 William V. Campbell Trophy®, college football's premier scholar-athlete award. Senior Mason Shipp has been named a semifinalist from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
Now in its 36th year, the Campbell Trophy® honors the nation's top football scholar-athlete for excellence in academics, athletics, and leadership. This year's class includes 112 team captains, 20 All-Americans, and five student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs.
All candidates were nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each. To qualify, a candidate must be a senior completing his final year of eligibility in 2025 or a graduate student/transfer who has already earned a degree and is playing this season. Nominees must have a GPA of at least 3.2, outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor, and a strong record of leadership and citizenship. The class is selected by the NFF Awards Committee, a nationally recognized group of media, Hall of Famers, and athletics administrators.
Off the field, Shipp is deeply involved in both the Yale and New Haven communities. He serves as Subcommittee Chair for Yale Bulldogs for Change within the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Vice Chair of the Ivy League SAAC, and Co-President of the Black Student-Athlete Coalition (BSAC). Through BSAC, he helped establish a partnership with the New Haven Boys & Girls Club, where members now volunteer their time mentoring local youth through recreational sports and activities.
The NFF will announce 12-16 finalists on Oct. 22. Each will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and be honored at the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 9 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, where the winner of the 36th Campbell Trophy® will be named and have his scholarship increased to $25,000.
