ITHACA, N.Y. – The Yale men's soccer team dropped its Ivy League opener to Cornell on Saturday afternoon at Berman Field. The Big Red topped the Bulldogs 3-1 for the team's first win over Yale since 2015.
Andrew Myerson scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs.
With the win, Cornell improved to 5-1 overall with a 1-0 mark in conference play. Yale dropped to 0-6-2 overall with an 0-1 record in Ivy League play.
"I thought we started the game exactly how we asked and it created some really positive moments for us that we eventually capitalized on," said
Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "Cornell is always a team that sends a lot of numbers forward and keeps coming and we didn't handle the last ten minutes of the first half well with some very controllable moments we must improve on with future games."
"The third goal was unacceptable to give up and reinforces the need to stay focused and locked in at all times. However, I do think our guys fought until the final whistle and had 2-3 moments that could have made the end very interesting, but credit to Cornell for defending their box well with a lot of numbers and great enthusiasm," Stannard said.
