Ava Poinsett Posts 21 Kills in Loss to Harvard

Bulldogs dropped their first home match of the season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs fell in five to Harvard and dropped their first home match of the season.  The scores were 23-25, 16-25, 25-19, 25-13 and 15-8.

Set one (25-23, Yale)
  • Ava Poinsett had seven kills and seven digs in the opening set.
  • The Bulldogs hit .312 in the frame.
  • Betsy Goodenow notched Yale's last two points with kills.
Set two (25-16, Yale)
  • Poinsett added seven more kills, added two aces and hit .583 in the set.
  • Yale used a 9-4 run to take command of the set.
  • The Bulldogs hit .467 with only one attack error in the set.
Set three (25-19, Harvard)
  • Cam Bolane pulled the Bulldogs to within one at 15-14.
  • The Crimson used a 6-1 run to pull away in the set. 
  • Laurece Abraham had three kills without an error and hit .500 in the set.
Set four (25-13, Harvard)
  • The set featured two ties and one lead change.
  • Arya Jue and Goodenow both had six digs in the set.
  • Kalyssa Taggart had a solo block.
Set five (15-8, Harvard)
  • Poinsett had a kill and an ace to get Yale within one at 5-4. 
  • Harvard pulled away with a 9-1 run.
  • Yale scored three straight to hold off match point.
Notes
  • Yale head coach Erin Appleman was honored before the match after earning her 400th career victory at Yale last month.
  • Poinsett had a season-high 21 kills.
  • Abraham reached double figures in kills for the second straight match.
  • Yale is now 4-1 at home this season.
