Men’s Basketball Set to Head to Dartmouth, Harvard

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Coming off its second consecutive victory, the Yale men's basketball team looks to continue the momentum with two big conference games on the road this week, facing Dartmouth on Friday, Feb. 13 and then an ESPNU-televised clash against Harvard on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Last Time Out
  •  Jordan Brathwaite drilled a game-tying three with three seconds remaining to force overtime, and five Bulldogs scored in double figures as Yale outlasted Howard, 87–81, in an overtime thriller on Monday night at Burr Gymnasium.
  • After Howard took a 69–63 lead with 1:35 remaining, the Bulldogs answered with five straight points, punctuated by a Trevor Mullin three-pointer to make it 69–68 with 23 seconds left. 
  • Howard converted at the free-throw line to go up 71–68, but Brathwaite drilled a game-tying three with three seconds remaining to force overtime.
  • In overtime, Yale put together a five-point run, highlighted by another three from Mullin, his fifth of the night, to take a 77–73 lead with 2:11 to play. Howard trimmed the deficit to one at 77–76 shortly after, but an and-one dunk by Samson Aletan and clutch free throws in the closing seconds sealed the win.

Scouting the Big Green
  • Dartmouth enters the matchup with a 10-11 record (4-4 Ivy).
  • The Big Green are coming off a 71-58 loss at home to Harvard.
  • In the defeat, Jayden Williams led the Big Green offense with 19 points, including four three-pointers and shot 43.8% from the field. Brandon Mitchell-Day also had a strong performance with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds, marking his league leading sixth double-double of the season.
  • Kareem Thomas is fifth in the Ivy League in scoring (17.1 ppg), and Mitchell-Day is first (9.1 rpg).
 
Dartmouth Rewind
  • Yale and Dartmouth last met on Jan. 30 in New Haven, with the Bulldogs winning by a score of 83-68.
  • In the win, Townsend reached milestones of 1,000 points and 500 rebounds while recording a double-double.
  • In addition to Townsend, Celiscar (17 points) and Mullin (13 points) also tallied double figures.
  • Yale shot an impressive 66.7% (20-of-30) from the field in the second half, and 61.5% (8-of-13) from deep.
 
Scouting the Crimson
  • Harvard enters the weekend with a 13-9 record (6-2 Ivy) and are currently tied for first with the Bulldogs in the league standings.
  • The Crimson is coming off a 71-58 victory over Dartmouth.
  • In the win, Robert Hinton had a strong performance posting a team-high 19 points and nine rebounds while going 7-of-14 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Tey Barbour also had an 18-point effort that was fueled by 4-of-8 shooting from deep.
  • The top defensive team in the league, Harvard held Dartmouth to a 33.9& field goal percentage.
  • Hinton is third in the conference in scoring (17.3 ppg), and Thomas Batties II is second in three-point percentage (.494).
 
Harvard Rewind
  • The Bulldogs and Crimson last met on Jan. 31 in New Haven, with Harvard winning by a score of 67-65.
  • In the loss, Harvard sank a bank-shot three pointer with four seconds remaining to edge the Bulldogs.
  • Mullin paced the Bulldogs with 21 points, shooting 8-of-13 overall and 5-of-8 from three-point range, adding three rebounds and two assists. 17 of his points came in the second half.
  • Townsend also tallied double figures, recording 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting, going a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line, along with six rebounds and four assists. 12 of his points came in the second half.
