Union Edges Bulldogs in Overtime, 5-4

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's hockey team fell to Union College, 5-4, in overtime at Ingalls Rink. The Bulldogs drop to 8-20-1 overall and 7-13-1 in ECAC Hockey, while the Garnet Chargers improve to 20-10-1 overall and 10-9-2 in conference play.

Period 1: Yale 1, Union 1
  • 7:51 (UNI) – Union found the back of the net for the game's first goal, scoring off the draw.
  • 15:10 (YAL) – It was all Kalen Szeto for Yale's first goal of the night. Szeto applied solo pressure deep in the offensive zone, intercepting an errant Union pass and deking the goaltender to even the score.
Period 2: Yale 4, Union 3
  • 0:36 (YAL) – David Chen wasted no time to start the second period. David Andreychuk chipped the puck ahead to Chen, who charged in on goal and buried the shot.
  • 8:22 (YAL) – A blocked shot and heads-up play from Zachary Wagnon sent Will Richter in alone for a breakaway tally.
  • 10:14 (UNI) – Midway through the period, the Garnet Chargers pulled within one with a shot from the deep slot.
  • 11:12 (YAL) – Micah Berger's keep-in near the blue line sparked the next sequence for the Bulldogs. Donovan Frias scooped up the puck and sent a backhanded shot toward goal that ricocheted to the stick of Iisai Pesonen for the finish.
  • 17:49 (UNI) – Union continued to pressure the Yale defense, tapping in a shot from the point to make it a one-goal game.
Period 3: Yale 4, Union 4
  • 4:22 (UNI) – Union erased Yale's second two-goal lead, tying the game at four.
Overtime: Union 5, Yale 4
  • 0:36 (UNI) – Union ended the game just 36 seconds into overtime.
