NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Lynn Leong, the Brooks G. Ragen Director of Squash, has announced that seniors Lachlan Sutton and Layla Johnson have been named the 2026-27 captains for the Yale men's and women's squash programs, respectively.
Sutton played at the No. 2 position and has been a stalwart in the lineup since arriving on campus as a first year. In his junior campaign, Sutton went 5-8, helping the Bulldogs reach the CSA semifinals. He is a two-time All-Ivy honoree and a two-time CSA All-American.
"Lachlan has steadily climbed the ladder since his freshman year, and the experience he has built over his seasons here is what this team needs heading into next year," said Leong. "He will lead alongside his classmates Jack and Bennett, and together they bring a steady, connected presence to the program. What stands out most about Lach is his empathy. He has a real awareness of the people around him and is thoughtful in how he approaches every situation. The team is in good hands."
Johnson will captain the women's squad for the 2026-27 season. She played primarily at the No. 8 position, earning two victories. Johnson is also a CSA Scholar Athlete.
"Layla has grown into a real leader this season. Her improvement on the court has been the result of consistent extra work, and it has shown in her performances," Leong said. "Off the court, mentoring comes naturally to her, and our first-years have leaned on her all season for advice and steadiness. She will lead alongside her classmate Annika Tiwary, and together they bring energy and steadiness to the women's team. I have full confidence in what they will bring to the program next season."
Both the men's and women's teams are expected to return more than a dozen players with collegiate experience next season.
