Lucy Lynn to Captain Bulldogs in 2026-27

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Rising senior guard Lucy Lynn (Liberty Lake, Wash.) will lead the Yale women's basketball team as captain in 2026-27, having been elected by her teammates. She brings unique experience to the role.

Lynn has appeared in 24 career games, including four starts, but was sidelined for the entirety of the 2025-26 season as she recovered from injury. Her time on the sideline wound up helping her develop as a leader. She was with the team every step of the way – starting with the preseason trip to France and Spain, which she considers one of the highlights of her Yale career. While rehabbing from her injury as the season progressed, Lynn remained a constant presence at games and practices.

"This past season, I learned a lot about both the game and myself," said Lynn. "Being forced to watch from the sidelines helped me further develop my basketball IQ and see the game from a different perspective. It also gave me the opportunity to focus on other areas, like becoming a better leader and helping build the culture of our team. Personally, the experience taught me resilience, patience and how much I truly love competing. Going through that process has made me even more grateful for this experience, and I'm excited and hungry to get back out there alongside my teammates again."

Lynn will be the fifth captain under Dalila Eshe, who has served as Yale's Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Women's Basketball since 2022.

"Lucy has done an incredible job of growing as a leader despite setbacks with injuries," said Eshe. "Having been sidelined from a season-ending injury her sophomore year, it's easy for a player in that situation to check out during the recovery process. Lucy did just the opposite – she asked for specific roles to be more connected. She willingly gives of herself to be present for her teammates. She will be an exceptional captain for us in her senior season."

Lynn is part of a rising senior class that also includes forwards Ana Guillen (Badalona, Spain), Mary Meng (Grafton, Ohio) and Luisa Vydrova (Prague, Czech Republic). The Bulldogs return a total of 13 players for 2026-27, including five who started at least 11 games this past season.

"What I'm most looking forward to about the 2026–27 season is competing and winning with this team," said Lynn. "Over the past year, we've built an extremely strong foundation, both on the court and within our culture, and I think that's going to show this season. We're bringing back 13 players who all share the same winning mindset, and we're also adding a great group that fits that culture perfectly. I'm excited to see all of the hard work we've put in together pay off and to compete alongside this group every day."

Lynn appeared in eight games her first season (2023-24). In her sophomore season she appeared in 16 games, including her first four career starts, before the season-ending injury that also sidelined her for the 2025-26 season.
Off the court, Lynn serves on the leadership board of OHAY (Oral Health at Yale), where she helps lead volunteer initiatives and outreach programs serving the greater New Haven community. She plans on pursuing a career in dentistry. She is an ecology and evolutionary biology major.

Lynn was a captain at Gonzaga Prep, where she was first team Greater Spokane League as a junior and senior and a Washington 4A all-star team selection in 2023.

Lynn leads the Bulldogs into their 53rd year as a varsity team at Yale.

"I'm very grateful for the opportunity that my coaches and teammates have trusted me with and I am looking forward to a great season," said Lynn.
