NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Jim Henry, Robert J.H. Kiphuth Coach of Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving, is thrilled to announce the addition of
Sam Milligan to his staff. Milligan will serve as an Assistant Coach.
"We are excited to welcome Samantha Milligan to the YSD coaching staff," said Henry. "Her dedication to cultivating a positive team culture and fostering meaningful relationships with our student-athletes aligns perfectly with the vision of Yale Swimming & Diving. Sam not only brings extensive experience in swimmer development but also boasts an impressive track record of recruiting outstanding individuals who will flourish within the Yale community."
Milligan joins the Bulldogs after spending four seasons on the coaching staff at Georgetown, where she helped lead the Hoyas' men's program to four consecutive Big East Championships and played a key role in the development of one of the conference's top programs.
"I am incredibly honored to be joining the Yale swimming & diving coaching staff", said Milligan. "Yale represents the highest standard of academic and athletic excellence, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a special program. I'm excited to contribute to the strong culture that Coach Henry and the staff have built, one that truly prioritizes the overall student-athlete experience. I look forward to supporting the continued success of the program and helping our student-athletes reach their full potential. I'm very grateful to Coach Henry for his confidence in me, and I can't wait to get started in New Haven!"
Most recently, Milligan served as an assistant coach under head coach John Carroll after two seasons as an assistant coach and one year as a volunteer assistant under Jack Leavitt. She coached Georgetown's upper training group, overseeing mid-distance, individual medley and distance swimmers while designing season training plans, daily practices and race strategies. She also played an integral role in recruiting, team operations, travel logistics and program administration.
During her tenure, Georgetown swimmers combined to break 47 school records, capture 26 Big East individual titles and earn the program's first NCAA qualifier. The Hoyas' coaching staff was named Big East Men's Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024, 2025 and 2026, while both the men's and women's teams earned CSCAA Academic All-America recognition each season.
A former Division I student-athlete, Milligan competed at both the University of New Hampshire and Georgetown during her collegiate career. She was a two-time America East Academic All-American at New Hampshire, where she helped the Wildcats capture the 2018 America East Swimming and Diving Championship, before attending Georgetown. She concluded her career with the Hoyas as a Big East All-Academic selection and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Human Science from Georgetown in 2022.
