John Torgerson joined the Yale staff as rink attendant and Zamboni driver in July 2026.
Torgerson has extensive facilities and operations experience, including 26 years as Superintendent of Parks for the Town of Hamden. Torgerson also worked at Sacred Heart for two years and spent 19 years with Northeast Ice Painting, where he specialized in the layout and painting of ice rinks.
A 1979 graduate of Guilford High School, Torgerson served in the United States Marine Corps from 1980–84 as a Tactical Air Traffic Controller. He later earned an Associate Degree in Computer Aided Design from the Connecticut Institute of Technology (1986–88).
Torgerson is active in several civic and professional organizations, including House of Heroes Connecticut, the Connecticut Parks Association, the New England Parks Association, the Connecticut Grounds Keepers Association and the Irish Heritage Society of Milford, Conn.
Torgerson lives in Woodbridge, Conn., with his wife.
