Box Score Yale Topped Blue Devils In Overtime Last Year
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Are you ready for some soccer? It isn't often
that the Yale women's soccer team plays on a Monday, but tonight is
the exception. The Bulldogs host Central Connecticut at 7 p.m. at
Reese Stadium, and it looks like the weather will cooperate.
Persistent thunderstorms in the New Haven area forced Saturday's
game with Harvard to be postponed after the teams had played a
scoreless first half. The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday,
Oct. 20 at 3 p.m. at Reese Stadium and the teams will start over.
As a result of the postponement, the Bulldogs have not played an
official game since a 2-0 victory over Princeton in the Ivy League
opener on Sept. 26.
Yale (5-3) has won two straight games, and all five of its
victories this season have come by shutout. Becky Brown leads the
Bulldogs with 18 points (7 goals, 4 assists). Freshman Kristen
Forster has a team-high five assists. Ayana Sumiyasu has posted
three shutouts in goal and has a 0.60 goals against average.
The Blue Devils (4-5-1) bring a two-game winning streak to New
Haven. CCSU blanked Bryant 2-0 on Friday. Beth Lloyd and Brittany
Emin scored in the win. Leah Blayney leads the Blue Devils in goals
(5) and assists (4).
Yale edged CCSU 3-2 in overtime last year at Reese Stadium.
Natalia Mann scored the winning goal on a penalty kick late in the
second overtime period. The Bulldogs have won all 12 meetings with
the Blue Devils.
