NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale softball team will have a much
better idea of where it stands in the Ivy League North Division
following a crucial four-game series at Dartmouth this weekend.
Because of inclement weather in Hanover, N.H., the games will now
be played on Sunday and Monday. Action at Sachem Field kicks
off at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday and at 2 p.m. on Monday.
The Bulldogs (9-18, 4-4 Ivy) begin the weekend in third place,
one game behind Dartmouth and two back of first-place Harvard. Yale
has won three of its last four games, including a 10-0 thrashing of
Sacred Heart in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.
In those four games, Allie Canulli and Christy Nelson have both
batted .500. Canulli has knocked in eight runs, while Nelson, who
has a five-game hitting streak, has six RBI.
Yale began the week second in the league in earned run average
(3.31). Holly Gutterud and Kayla Kuretich combined on a two-hit
shutout in Wednesday's win over SHU. Gutterud has allowed
only two earned runs in her last 10 innings.
Dartmouth had a big weekend against Penn and Columbia. The Big
Green had 42 hits and scored 33 runs in winning three of four
games. Dartmouth dropped a 12-4 decision at UConn on Wednesday.
Nikki Yee leads the team with a .330 batting average, while Leigha
Clarkson has a team-best four home runs. Hillary Barker (5.12 ERA,
49 strikeouts) and Evan Gray (6.55 ERA) have seen a majority of the
action in the circle.
Yale and Dartmouth split four games at Dewitt Family Field last
year.
