Box Score Yale Outshoots Blue Devils 16-7
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Yale's offensive frustration continued Monday night at Central Connecticut.
The Bulldogs outshot the Blue Devils 16-7 and had a 13-3 edge in corner kicks, but it was CCSU that made the most of its opportunities. The result was a 4-0 victory for the Blue Devils.
The final score was a bit deceiving as Central Connecticut scored twice in the final 10 minutes.
Yale, which had been shutout in its previous four games, started strong, getting off the first six shots of the game. Central goalkeeper Rebecca Lewis, though, was up to the challenge as she stopped three of them while the others missed the net.
The Blue Devils (6-4-3) scored on only its second shot of the game. Alysa Christo had the honors after a ball deflected to her off a Yale defender at 35:19.
Brianne Casey's goal early in the second half gave CCSU a 2-0 lead.
Yale continued to apply pressure but couldn't solve Lewis, who finished with eight saves.
Freshman Sarah McCauley had the Bulldogs' best chance but her shot rang off the post at 81:38.
Less than two minutes later, Tori Sousa sealed the win for the Blue Devils when she tallied her fifth goal of the season.
Julie Lavoie capped the scoring when she scored on a breakaway with 1:54 left.
The Bulldogs (5-4-2) are off until Saturday when they return to Ivy League play at Cornell. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
