Big Green Hit Five Home Runs; Brennan Extends Hitting Streak To Nine

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It couldn't have been comforting for Lindsay Efflandt, Yale's starting pitcher in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Dartmouth, to watch as the Big Green banged out 15 hits, including four home runs, in a 16-2 victory in the first game. Efflandt, though, rose to the challenge, holding the powerful Dartmouth lineup in check for five innings before the Big Green broke through for five runs in the sixth inning en route to a 5-1 win and a doubleheader sweep.

The Big Green (16-13) remain in first place in the Ivy League North Division with a 9-1 record.

Efflandt was magnificent early for the Bulldogs. She retired the first seven batters she faced and didn't allow a hit until Kelsey Miller singled with one out in the fifth.

The Bulldogs (7-14, 2-6 Ivy) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Sydney Glover led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Hannah Brennan's clutch, two-out single which ticked off the third baseman's glove and into short left field.

Efflandt benefitted from some fine defense. Leftfielder Allie Souza made a terrific catch on a bullet off the bat of Katie McEachern in the fourth, and second baseman Laina Do snared Kathy Dzienkowski's line drive in the fifth.

Dartmouth finally solved Efflandt in the sixth. The big blow was Karen Chaw's two-run home down the left field line. Morgan McCalmon added an RBI double in the inning.

Efflandt allowed just five hits in the game and only three of the runs yielded were earned. She struck out four.

The Bulldogs were held to just two hits.

Dartmouth wasted little time seizing control of the opener. McEachern led off the game with her ninth home run of the season.

The Big Green added five runs in the second inning and scored six times in the fourth.

The Bulldogs scored in the fourth inning when Allison Skinner doubled and scored on Brennan's single to centerfield.

A Glover single scored Do in the fifth inning to cap the scoring.

Sarah Onorato also had a hit in the game for Yale.

Brennan had a hit in each game to extend her hitting streak to nine.

The same two teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 12:30 p.m.
