Skinner Belts Two Home Runs In Second Game Victory

HANOVER, N.H. – Yale's first home runs of the season came at a very opportune time. Allison Skinner went deep twice, and Rachel Paris once as the Bulldogs handed Dartmouth its first Ivy League loss, 4-2 in the second game of a doubleheader.

The Big Green won the first game 4-0.

"I love the fight in this team," said Yale head coach Jen Goodwin. "After a tough first game, we wanted to come out and play our game, and I'm really proud of the way we bounced back."

Skinner had a lot to do with it. In her first at bat in the first inning, she homered to left field. In her second time up in the third, she belted a shot over the left-centerfield fence.

"Allison has been hitting the ball hard all season, so to see her connect twice was special," Goodwin said.

In between Skinner's homers, Sydney Glover doubled home Lauren Delgadillo in the second.

A 3-0 lead was enough for starting pitcher Terra Jerpbak, who kept the Big Green off the board for the first four innings. Dartmouth finally broke through in the fifth, scoring twice.

Francesca Casalino came on in relief and tossed the final two innings without yielding a run and striking out four.

"Terra kept the game close for us, and when we called on Fran, she was ready and shut it down," Goodwin said. "Fran had a little more zip on the ball for the last few batters."

Paris' home run to centerfield in the seventh inning gave the Bulldogs a little breathing room.

Casalino retired the Big Green in order in the bottom of the seventh, striking out the final two hitters of the game.

Dartmouth's Morgan McCalmon was dominant in the circle in the first game. Skinner had Yale's only hit, a single to left field leading off the seventh inning. The only other baserunners for the Bulldogs came on a walk to Brittany Labbadia leading off the fourth, and when Shelby Kennedy reached on an error in the sixth.

The Big Green (25-11, 13-1 Ivy) are in first place in the Ivy North Division.

The same two teams play another doubleheader on Sunday. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 12:30 p.m.
