NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- With three wins in its last four games, the Yale field hockey team hits the road this weekend. The Bulldogs play their second Ivy League game of the year Friday at No. 17 Princeton (5:00 p.m.,
ESPN+) and then make the short trip up I-91 to Quinnipiac Sunday (2:00 p.m.,
ESPN+).
BULLDOGS SWEEP WEEKEND
Yale (4-3, 1-0 Ivy League) earned a pair of come-from-behind one-goal wins at Johnson Field last weekend. The Bulldogs opened Ivy League play in thrilling fashion Saturday, rallying past Brown 2-1 on second-half goals from first year forward
Ellie Barlow (Dunmow, Essex, England) and junior midfielder
Théodora Dillman (Lancaster, Pa.). On Sunday Yale trailed Drexel 3-2 heading into the final quarter but got tallies from sophomore forward
Lena Ansari (Glenview, Ill.) and senior midfielder
Imogen Davies (Kilmacolm, Scotland) to pull out the win.
ANSARI OFF TO GREAT START
Just seven games into the season sophomore forward
Lena Ansari (Glenview, Ill.) has already equaled or surpassed her season goal, assist and point totals from all of 2019 (4-2-10 this year; 4-1-9 in 2019). Six of her eight career goals have come in one-goal games. She is tied with junior midfielder
Théodora Dillman (Lancaster, Pa.) for the team lead in goals and points.
A FAMILIAR NAME IN THE STARTING LINEUP
First-year back
Keely Comizio (New Vernon, N.J.) made the first two starts of her Yale career last weekend -- though her name is likely familiar to many Yale field hockey followers. Her sister
Kiwi Comizio '18 started all 51 games the first three years of her career, and was elected captain for her senior season (2017) before being sidelined for the season by an injury.
A BUSY SUMMER
Sophomore goalkeeper
Luanna Summer (St. Louis, Mo.) leads the Ivy League in saves per game (5.43). She is 20th nationally. Summer's .776 save percentage is 15th nationally and third in the Ivy League.
STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE
Friday starts a stretch in which Yale plays three ranked opponents in four games. The Bulldogs visit No. 17 Princeton Oct. 1, host No. 12 Harvard Oct. 9 and visit No. 21 UMass Oct. 10. That trio is 13-1 against unranked opponents this year.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
Princeton (3-5, 1-0 Ivy League) has played a challenging schedule so far, with all five of its losses coming to teams ranked in the top 20. The Tigers knocked off then-No. 17 Delaware Sept. 17 and now have the No. 17 spot in the national poll. They beat Penn 5-1 in the Ivy League opener last week. Princeton has won 10 straight Ivy games since suffering a 3-1 loss at home to Harvard Oct. 20, 2018.
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
Quinnipiac (0-8, 0-2 Big East), which hosts No. 12 Liberty Friday, has scored more than one goal in a game just once: a 3-2 loss to Temple that was decided by a shootout after two scoreless overtimes. Yale
beat the Bobcats 2-1 the last time these two teams played -- Oct. 20, 2019 -- on a fourth-quarter goal by
Bridget Condie '20.
