CAMBRIDGE, Mass -- Nationally-ranked Harvard scored twice in the first 11 minutes Saturday to get started on a 6-0 win over Yale at Jordan Field.
Yale (4-5-1, 1-1-0) hadn't played since opening the Ivy League season last Saturday with a 1-0 home win over Princeton. Sophomore
Ellie Rappole scored the game-winner and
Maya Bellomo made six saves. It was the fourth shutout of the season for Bellomo, who has been one of the team's stalwarts this season.
Saturday's match was the first in a three-game homestand for the Crimson, who came into the game ranked No. 25 in the nation. Harvard was coming off a 1-1 draw against Penn. The Crimson (7-0-2, 1-0-1) held Yale without a shot or corner kick while putting 17 shots on Yale's goal.
Bellomo had made 48 saves in Yale's first nine contests, tying Dartmouth's Charlotte Cyr for the league lead. But Harvard was relentless on Saturday, pounding shot after shot at the transfer from Baylor.
Harvard took the lead in the fourth minute when Hannah Bebar, who had seven shots in the first half, spun a left corner kick behind Bellomo. Seven minutes later, a shot from Aslaug Gunnlaugsdottir rebounded off Bellomo directly to Josefine Hasbo who scored.
Harvard dominated the ball in the first half forcing Bellomo to made seven saves. The Yale goalie made spectacular saves in the 15
th and 41
st minutes to temporarily keep Harvard from adding to the lead.
Harvard increased the lead to 5-0 with goals in the 57
th, 58
th and 65
th minutes by Josefine Hasbo, Ava Lung and Ainsley Ahmadian.
Bellomo finished with a career-high nine saves.
Marissa Shorrock made her season debut in relief, making one save and allowing the final goal by Hannah Griffin in the 87
th minute.

The Bulldogs travel to Hanover, N.H., on Oct. 8 to play Dartmouth at 1 p.m.
