NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale Fencing will be very well represented at the NCAA Championship starting on Thursday. Seven Bulldogs –
Emme Zhou and
Helen Tan (women's foil),
Sydney Hirsch and
Stephanie Cao (women's saber),
Safi Haider (men's epee) and
Earnest Chen and
Maxwell Yee (men's foil) – will represent Yale.

The championship begins on Thursday with rounds 1-3 of the women's competition. Zhou and Tan get going in the foil at 11 a.m. followed by Hirsch and Cao in the saber 1:30 p.m.

Rounds 4-5 of the women's competition are Friday at 9 a.m., with the semifinals and championship bouts to follow at 1:30 p.m.

Haider will be first up for the men on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the epee. Chen and Yee will compete in the foil at 11 a.m.

Rounds 1-3 are Saturday, rounds 4-5 are Sunday morning starting at 9 a.m. and the semifinals and championship bouts are scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After round-robin, the top-four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places, and non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.

An institution's place in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes during round-robin competition.
