STORRS, Conn. – The Yale women's soccer team gave a strong UConn squad all it could handle Friday night in Storrs. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the Huskies got a goal in the 84
th minute to escape with a 2-1 victory at Morrone Stadium.
The teams played an even opening 45 minutes before UConn struck first on a Cara Elmendorf goal early in the second half.
The Bulldogs, though, fought hard to get back in the game and were rewarded when
Ellery Winkler blasted a shot from the top of the box into the left corner at 59:15.
Lucy Cappadona then scored the game winner with just over six minutes to play.
Both teams had six shots on goal in the game.
Goalkeeper
Maya Bellomo made four saves for the Bulldogs.
"A tough one for us tonight," said
Sarah Martinez, the Loring Family Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "We continue to show glimpses of very quality play, but our execution of the game plan needs to be a bit better from start to finish."
Yale (3-3-1) plays its fourth straight road game on Sunday at Buffalo. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
"We have a quick turnaround to wrap up non-conference play against a talented Buffalo team," Martinez said. "I'm looking forward to another opportunity to get better."
