Bulldogs Take Down Charleston, Split in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Yale softball team split a pair of games Saturday, earning a 7-3 win over the College of Charleston before falling 8-0 to Georgia Tech.

Game 1: Yale 7, College of Charleston 3
  • T1 – Emma Taylor wasted no time, blasting a first-pitch home run to deep right to open the scoring. Two batters later, Isabella Fortini doubled to left with two outs, and Elena Ohe followed with a double of her own to plate Fortini. (YAL 2, CoC 0)
  • B1 – Charleston answered in the bottom half, using a hit and a run to trim the deficit. (YAL 2, CoC 1)
  • T2 – Yale added to its lead in the second. After Ava Kang drew a walk, Ella Gandolfo singled, and Kang later scored from first on an infield error. (YAL 3, CoC 1)
  • B3 – The Cougars pulled within one. Following a quick out, Charleston strung together a single, a stolen base and an RBI single to right. (YAL 3, CoC 2)
  • B5 – After several scoreless frames, Charleston evened the score at three. (YAL 3, CoC 3)
  • T6 – The Bulldogs responded immediately. Grace Westmoreland led off with a first-pitch single to left. Kang dropped down a bunt, and an error allowed Westmoreland to race all the way home while Kang advanced to third. Kang later scored to restore a two-run lead. (YAL 5, CoC 3)
  • T7 – Ohe recorded her fourth hit of the game with a lead-off single to right. She moved to second in the next at-bat, and Ava Kainrath — in just her fifth collegiate plate appearance — ripped a double to score Ohe. Westmoreland followed with an RBI knock to push the lead to four. (YAL 7, CoC 3)

  • Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets softball struck early with a run in the first inning.
  • After 2.5 scoreless frames, the Yellow Jackets broke the game open with six runs in the third and added another in the fourth to secure the five-inning win.
