HANOVER, N.H. – The Yale women's cross country team took second at Dartmouth's Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational Saturday. The Bulldogs, led by a course record from senior
Hebe Chadwick (first, 20:53.9), totaled 62 points and finished only seven points behind first-place UMass. A total of eight teams competed in the race, Yale's first 6K of the season.
The meet gave Yale, ranked No. 5 in the Northeast Region, an early chance to measure itself against other teams in the region. That included:
- No. 6 UConn (eighth, 191 pts.)
- No. 11 Brown (fourth, 93 pts.)
- No. 15 Dartmouth (seventh, 150 pts.)
The Bulldogs:
- Yale was the only school with three runners in the top 10.
- Chadwick led throughout the race, edging Dartmouth's Virginia Kraus (20:55.7) by less than two seconds for the win. She has finished among Yale's top five in each of her last seven races; this was her first time as Yale's top finisher. This was the second-fastest 6K cross country time of her career, trailing only her time of 20:35.1 at NCAA Regionals last year.
- Sophomore Phoebe Benun (seventh, 21:11.5) and first-year Naomi Douglas (10th, 21:30.3) were separated by less than 20 seconds.
- Junior Zoe Martonfi (19th, 21:46.4) and senior Daniella Henderson (25th, 22:04.5) rounded out Yale's top five.
- Junior Sylvie Sanok Dufallo (34th, 22:26.7) and junior Muriel Lovshin (53rd, 22:52.5) placed sixth and seventh on the team, respectively.
