Bulldogs Host Dartmouth Friday Night

Friday, 5:00 p.m. vs. Dartmouth  
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale field hockey team hosts Dartmouth Friday at 5:00 p.m. (ESPN+, NESN+, International Stream, Live Stats). The two teams enter the game tied for fifth in the Ivy League standings, two games behind the two teams tied for third, with three league games left. The top four teams will make the Ivy League Tournament.
 
LAST WEEK
Yale (4-8, 1-3 Ivy League) split a pair of games last week, winning 2-1 in overtime at Brown Wednesday and falling 3-0 at then-No. 20 Cornell Saturday.
 
BEALES AND BARLOW AMONG LEAGUE LEADERS
Sophomore forward Poppy Beales (King's Lynn, Norfolk, England) is fifth in the Ivy League in goals and tied for eighth in points (6-0-12). All of her goals and points have come in the last nine games. Junior midfielder/forward Ellie Barlow (Dunmow, Essex, England) is tied for ninth in the league with four assists.
 
GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE
Four first years and sophomores have started at least three games for Yale this season:
  • Sophomore forward Poppy Beales (King's Lynn, Norfolk, England) (12 starts)
  • First-year forward Emma Ramsey (Summit, N.J.) (12 starts)
  • First-year back/midfielder Hettie Whittington (Oxshott, Surrey, England) (three starts)
  • Sophomore midfielder/back Maddy Zavalick (Newington, Conn.) (10 starts)
 
SISTER ACT
Seven Bulldogs (on a roster of 23) have sisters who either currently play for, or previously played for, Ivy League teams. Here is the list:
  • Junior back Keely Comizio (New Vernon, N.J.) – Sister Kiwi played for Yale (Class of 2018)
  • Junior forward/midfielder Julia Freedman (Greenwich, Conn.) – Sister Sophie plays for Penn (Junior)
  • Senior forward/midfielder Ashley Kim (Fredericksburg, Va.) – Sister April played for Yale (Class of 2023) 
  • First-year forward Emma Ramsey (Summit, N.J.) – Sister Lily plays for Yale (Junior)
  • Junior forward Lily Ramsey (Summit, N.J.) – Sister Emma plays for Yale (First Year)
  • Senior midfielder Maddy Wong (West Vancouver, B.C.) – Sister Alissa played for Yale (Class of 2022)
  • Sophomore midfielder/back Maddy Zavalick (Newington, Conn.) – Sister Leah played for Brown (Class of 2017)
 
A BREAK FOR THE BULLDOGS
Last Saturday's game at Cornell marked the end of a stretch of four games in nine days for Yale – including three against ranked teams and three on the road with a total of approximately 880 miles of travel. It was the busiest nine-day stretch of the season. The Bulldogs are now in the midst of a stretch of 12 days in which they play only one game, and Yale University's five-day October Break starts next week (on Oct. 18). For the remainder of the regular season the Bulldogs have only one road game left, a relatively brief trip to Columbia Friday Oct. 20.
 
IRON WOMEN 
Senior goalkeeper Luanna Summer (St. Louis, Mo.) has extended her streak of consecutive games started to 46, dating back to the start of the 2021 season. She ranks 15th in the nation in saves per game (5.83). Junior back Keely Comizio (New Vernon, N.J.) has the longest starting streak on the team among field players. She has started 41 straight games, dating back to her first career start Sept. 25, 2021.
 
CELEBRATING YALE FIELD HOCKEY AT 50 YEARS
The Bulldogs hosted Alum Weekend last month, with alums invited back and recognized at both games Sept. 15-17. The weekend marked the debut of the Celebrating Yale Field Hockey at 50 Years video, produced by Jan Seeley '82 and directed by videographer Amanda Baker. The video can be viewed here.
 
AROUND THE IVY LEAGUE
No. 11 Harvard and Penn enter the week atop the Ivy League standings with 4-0 marks in league play, with No. 18 Cornell and Princeton tied for third at 3-1.

IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
The Ivy League Tournament takes place at the site of the No. 1 seed and includes the top four teams in the regular season standings. Semifinals take place Friday Nov. 3 (times TBD) and the tournament championship game is Sunday Nov. 5 at 1:00 p.m.  Tournament games will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
INTERNATIONAL APPEAL
In addition to the United States, seven different countries will be represented in Friday's game. Here is the list, with the number of players for each team from each country:

SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
Dartmouth (4-6, 1-3 Ivy League) snapped a 25 game Ivy League losing streak with a 2-0 win vs. Brown Sept. 30. The Big Green had not won an Ivy League game since 2018. Head coach Mark Egner, a native of Ireland, is in his fourth year at the helm. Nine of the team's 23 goals (39 percent) this season have come from first years. The Bulldogs have won six in a row in the series, including last season's 2-1 triumph in Hanover in which junior forward Lily Ramsey (Summit, N.J.) scored both of Yale's goals.
