NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs close out the regular season and will honor its seniors this weekend with home matches against Columbia and Cornell. Yale has already secured back-to-back regular season conference titles and the No. 1 seed in next weekend's Ivy League post-season tournament.
Yale notes:
- The Bulldogs defeated Dartmouth and Harvard last weekend to clinch the conference regular season title -- the 13th in program history and 12th under head coach Erin Appleman.Â
- With last weekend's victories, Yale will host the conference post-season tournament next Friday and Saturday.
- Yale finished the road portion of the conference schedule at 7-0.
- Yale will honor its three seniors -- Bonnie Bostic, Audrey Leak and team captain Maile Somera -- prior to Saturday's match. Over the last four seasons, the Bulldogs are 71-21 overall, 44-8 in conference play and 33-4 in home matches.Â
- Senior Audrey Leak and first-year Betsy Goodenow both earned Ivy League weekly awards on Monday for the second time this season.
- Leak averaged 3.57 kills and hit .417 in two wins for the Bulldogs. She had a match-high 15 kills and hit .500 in the victory at Harvard and continues to lead the conference in kills per set in Ivy League matches.
- Goodenow, also recognized for the second time this fall, averaged 4.14 kills per set and hit .429 in the two road wins. Her 15 kills and .542 hitting percentage on Friday against Dartmouth were season-highs against Ivy League competition.Â
- The Bulldogs enter the weekend among the national leaders in three categories:Â kills per set (18th), hitting percentage (21st) and aces per set (21st).Â
Scouting Columbia
The Lions enter the weekend 1-11 in conference play and 3-18 overall. Â Columbia's victory in league play came against Cornell in a five-set win. The Bulldogs hit .329 and won 3-0 at Columbia on Oct. 7.
Scouting Cornell
Cornell enters the weekend 7-14 overall and 5-7 in conference play. Â The Big Red lead the conference in opponent's kills per set and are third in opponent's hitting percentage. Â Yale won 3-1 at Cornell on Oct. 6.Â
