NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Fresh off capturing the 2023 Yale Invitational and riding a four-match win streak, the Bulldogs travel to the Chicago area this weekend for matches against Northwestern and Loyola-Chicago.

Here are some notes entering the weekend:

  • The Bulldogs last weekend won the Yale Invitational for the second straight year – defeating Sacred Heart, Rhode Island and UConn.
  • This weekend marks the final non-conference matches of the regular season for Yale.

  • Diehl was named tournament MVP after averaging 9.91 assists, 2.00 digs, 1.64 kills and adding five service aces on the weekend.  In the victory over UConn, Diehl surpassed the 2,000-assist mark in her Yale career.
  • Goodenow, a first-year, continues to impress after leading the Bulldogs in with 32 kills in the three matches, including a season-high 14 in the win over Sacred Heart last Friday.
  • The Bulldogs hit .281 as a team last weekend and averaged 14.09 kills per set.
  • Gigi Barr, an Illinois native, earned a spot on the Yale Invitational All-Tournament team after averaging 2.89 kills per set and hitting .375 for the weekend.
  • Fatima Samb continues to lead the Bulldogs in blocking after her team-leading 11 blocks last weekend.

Scouting Northwestern

The Wildcats (5-4) are coming off a five-set loss to Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday.  Ellee Stinson was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and averaged 4.23 digs per set last week.  Yale and Northwestern have played one other time, a 3-1 victory for the Wildcats in New Haven back on Sept. 8, 2012.

Scouting Loyola-Chicago

The Ramblers (2-6) lost at home to two nationally ranked teams last weekend – No. 18 Tennessee and No. 9 Pittsburgh.  Karlie McNabb leads the team with a 3.24 kills per set average.
