Goodenow Leads Bulldogs Over UC San Diego

Yale earns third win in four matches

Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Betsy Goodenow exploded for 20 kills to lead the Bulldogs to a five-set win over UC San Diego on Friday night. The scores of the match were 16-25, 25-20, 22-25, 27-25 and 15-12.

Match summary:

The Bulldogs have won three of their last four matches and improved to 3-4 on the season.
Goodenow, a first team All-Ivy selection last year, had five kills in the final set – including match point. In addition, her 20 kills were on 34 swings with only one error (.559 hitting percentage) to go with eight digs and six total blocks.
Yuri Park had 22 of Yale's 51 digs tonight.
Gigi Barr had nine kills and career-best eight total blocks. Barr now has 811 kills for her Yale career.
The Bulldogs out-blocked the Tritons 15-8. It marks Yale's highest block total in match since Sept. 22, 2023 – when it had 16 in a victory over Brown.
Bethanie Wu dished out 41 assists and added six digs.
In the fourth set, Goodenow tied the set with a kill at 25-25, and the Bulldogs closed it out with consecutive points with block assists from Barr and Wu.

Yale head coach Erin Appleman, who earned her 386^th career win tonight, is a 1990 graduate of San Diego State, where she served as volleyball captain and was voted the team's Most Valuable Player in 1989.
